AMOLO NG’WENO: ICT AND ISP PIONEEER

Amolo Ng’weno is the East Africa Regional Director for Bankable Frontier Associates (BFA). She was formerly the Founding Managing Director of Digital Divide (2010-2015) and Deputy Director at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (2006-2011).

Amolo is a veteran and pioneer of the Kenya ICT industry being co-founder of Africa Online, Kenya’s first Internet Service Provider (ISP) that she founded alongside Ayisi Makatiani and Karanja Gakio.

Her work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation involved promoting mobile money transfer in other parts of the world.

She graced the cover of the February 2012 issue of Forbes Africa magazine which is just one among the many honors that she has received.

She is the daughter of famed journalist Hilary Ngweno and his wife Fleur Grandjouan Ng’weno an ardent naturalist. Amolo’s sister Bettina is an associate professor in African American and African Studies at the University of California, Davis.
